It's also worth remembering that while Infiniminer wasn't very well known (relatively), Minecraft is arguably one of the most popular games of the last 6 months, so follow too closely and you're more liable to be overshadowed (unfair as that may be). Infiniminer was more like a traditional deathmatch game in its feel Minecraft went the more lego playset direction. I think he would type more intelligibly, but not have a different personality. Im sure if he wasnt deaf he wouldnt act so stupid. Take some good ideas, by all means, but I'd change the feel a little more. Author Topic: Cubelands, you have no idea. I see the sense in looking at a successful game to see what made it good, but I wouldn't agree with 'going after it', or you'll only end up with something derivative. What will be interesting to see is what Cubelands adds to the mix last time I played it didn't really hold my interest to be honest, but I will be sure to try it again once it has more features. Cubeworlds may be inspired by Minecraft, Minecraft by Infiniminer etc. Work together with your friends to create your own amazing world and show it off to the entire community and is an game in the games category. Hey Notch, If their game is Java based, tell them you’ll settle out-of-court if they’ll sell you their rendering engine for a pittance.Click to expand. Not really. Cubelands is described as online multiplayer building game set in the universe of cubes. That’s just me though, there is the fact that Minecraft has over a million registered users versus Cubelands 1200, and that of those million more than 300,000 have paid the registration fee (myself included), and that at roughly $15 a pop, Minecraft has netted notch nearly 4.5 million dollars (just the math here, forgetting taxes and overhead and whatnot)… I guess you could just sit back and watch Cubelands tank. They might even get more money since Sony is ruining Nintendo’s image. After all, if Sony made a Mario game that looked better than Nintendo’s, and sucked, Nintendo would still sue them. Cubelands: Start in die Open-Beta You last visited: Today at 06:10. It’s not hard to look at Cubelands and see how unbelievably close it is. Whoever the developers of Cubelands are (they don’t really advertise it), they’d have done well to focus more on making the game fun instead of just digital legos.Īs a result, Cubelands is a shameless, inferior clone of Minecraft (and maybe even Legos)-Presson, were he so inclined, could probably seek legal action. Cubelands’ does seem to have prettier graphics than Minecraft, but once again I find myself having to stress: graphics do not make the game. After all, flying isn’t fun if it requires no skill-it’s just another kind of walking. As fun as it is to build, it gets boring when there is no challenge involved. It is a sandbox, pure and simple-a toy, and that aspect of it is likely to keep profits down-if there are any profits at all. Features: Mac and Windows, Multiplayer (16+), Freedom, Social gaming, Share creations, Built in community support. Work together with your friends to create your own amazing world and show it off to the entire community. But the important factor is that there is gameplay.Īccording to Cubelands’ description, the game focuses on construction-and as no screenshots display any challengers, it seems that it does not actually constitute a game per se. Cubelands is an online multiplayer building game set in the universe of cubes. That’s no good! You can, of course, turn the game difficulty down to peaceful, so that monsters do not spawn at all, turning the game into a sandbox. You must quickly gather resources and use them to build weapons and shelter to survive the monsters-otherwise you die. In Minecraft, there are monsters that populate the dark places (and the night), making survival the key element of the game. Minecraft is a game-there is a definite goal (by default). As it stands however, it looks like the two programs (not necessarily games) differ only in their intended activity. Once Cubelands is released into public beta, I’ll be able to try it and see how it constitutes not being a copyright infringement of Markus Persson’s Minecraft.
